Easy Fix For The Dumb Corner Cabinet

Spread the love

Almost every kitchen has one of these dumb corner cabinets, but not every one is the level of dumb that ours is.

First of all there are two doors instead of one, which means the opening is divided down the middle with the door frame, AND the doors are only about 10 inches wide, which means you can’t fit anything in there without first turning it on it’s side. Then you lose it in the recesses.

About a week ago it dawned on me that this is MY house, and I don’t have to live with dumb hardware. So I asked my husband to take out the doors and cut out the corner part of the cabinet front that was framing the doors.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

Looks like there’s some scrubbing, new paint and shelf liners in order, but who would have thought simply removing the doors and hardware would improve the function of this space so drastically? I finally have an accesible place to keep all my nice cast iron and cookies sheets! (cut to me doing a happy nerd dance)

There are still a few options for the way-back corner, and I need to decide how I want to cover the cabinet, (curtain, articulated door?) but I want to live with it as it is now for a while before I decide which options are going to be the best fit.

It’s been so fun looking at the home and property with a renewed sense of adventure, and coming up with ideas in keeping with my goal to make the most of what we have and where we are.

Hmmm….what’s next?!
